What Happened? Northern Illinois Stuns Alabama 19-16

From Northern Illinois Huskies ...

(#32 Sr. RB, 6-0 228 lbs. North Chicago) Josh Haldi (#10 Jro. QB, 6-2 202 lbs. Madison, OH)

These comments came following the Northern Illinois game as NIU players Michael Turner and Josh Haldi left the field ...

NIU running back Michael Turner – I knew it would be a test for me to see where I was at and see how good our team really was. I know Alabama has a great defense and they didn’t let nobody run the ball on them. So we just tried to come in here and do our thing and we just gave it our all.

Reporter - Was it a sense of satisfaction that you got to stick it to them?

(laughs) No, I ain’t gonna say all that! I’m just glad we got a victory.

NIU quarterback Josh Haldi – We played a great Alabama team and they played well tonight, but we just got it done.

You guys did exactly what your coach said you wouldn’t do and that was make little gains here and there all up and down the field. You really seemed to handle their defense.

You know that was surprising. I thought we ran the ball pretty well against them. Going into the game, all you heard about was their run defense and how tough it was. But I tell you what, after watching film I wasn’t going to argue that point. They’ve got some big guys up front. But that surprised me a little bit, and helped our passing game out a lot. We were able to get some man on man coverage and go to work.

Are you going to look back at the blocked PAT as the big play?

That was huge. At the time, you don’t know how big it is. But it was big and we were able to get it done.
