What Happened? Northern Illinois Stuns Alabama 19-16
Freddie Roach (#8 So. MLB, 6-2 245 lbs. Killen, AL - Brooks High)

These comments came following the Northern Illinois game as Freddie Roach answered questions from the press pool ...
Press Pool - How big of a factor was the time of possession? They seemed to be able to hold onto the ball.
Freddie Roach - I don’t think they wore us down. They just made the plays they had to make to win the game. Unfortunately, we couldn’t pull it off. But we’ve got to get better and go out and see what we can do.
What’s the mood like in the locker room? It’s got to be disheartening to go back into the SEC and play the teams you have to play.
Any loss is hard. You just have to show what kind of man you are and what kind of team you are when you bounce back from a loss. Next week will say a lot about us by how we respond.
Can you talk about their running back a little bit? What’s Michael Turner like?
He’s a great athlete. He sets up his blocks well and he ran the ball well. He’s a great athlete and I hope the best for him.
It seems like he was breaking a lot of tackles.
He was really tough to bring down. But we made a few mistakes. We’ve got to correct them and get better.
How about some of the young guys on the defense? Everyone seemed like they were playing hard out there.
Yeah, we played real hard. But they just executed better than we did. It all boils down to the fact that they played better as a team.
Brodie says he felt embarrassed by the loss, that the team felt embarrassed. Do you agree?
Yeah, I think it’s embarrassing. Taking nothing from those guys (NIU). They have a good team. But I think our mistakes hurt us and we just have to correct them and get better.
How does NIU compare to some of the other teams you’ve played this year?
They’re very good. You know, all the teams we’ve played are very good. They’re up there with them. I hope the best for that coaching staff and that team. I hope they do well.
And Arkansas? What do you think about next week?
I don’t know yet. I’ve got to watch the film and evaluate it. It will be another tough game. We’ve got to come it next week and hope to get better.
