Bama Runs Over The Wildcats 27-17

Brodie Croyle (#12 So. QB, 6-3 200 lbs. Rainbow City, AL - Westbrook Christian High)

These comments came following the Kentucky game as Brodie Croyle answered questions from the press pool ...

Press pool – Talk about that interception you threw right before the half.

Brodie Croyle - Well, that was real frustrating for me. I threw the ball into quadruple coverage and got yelled at a little bit. But we rebounded and got a lot of yards.

Talk about your defense and what you saw from those guys tonight.

Those guys are … what else can you say about them? They’ve played great all season long and they come up with the big plays when they have to. The whole time they’re like, “If ya’ll can get us 20 points, then we’ll win the game.” They’re real confident. Anytime, we can do that for them, we have a real good chance of winning the game.

When they make a big stop, does that motivate you guys on offense to get out there and make a big play?

It does. You see your defense out there working and making all the plays they make. It kind of goes back to us and “What are ya’ll going to do with it now?” Those guys come over there and give you the occasional whatever you want to call it. But we’ve still got to get the ball in the endzone.

Was it hard to get motivated for this game after Oklahoma?

Not at all. We lost last week. Everyone wants to talk about how good we played and how hard we fought. But the bottom line is we lost and that’s not acceptable here. We started out faster today than we’ve started out all year. But we just couldn’t find the endzone in the first half. But we came out with a sense of urgency and knew we needed a win. This win is even bigger than a win last week would have been because now we’re in the SEC.

Can you talk a little bit about Shaud (Williams) and what he means to this team?

If any player in the nation means more to their team than Shaud Williams, I’d like to see who he was. In my eyes, he should be up for the Heisman Trophy. He pretty much just carried us the whole second half. We were just giving him the ball and watching him run. Those guys behind him did an excellent job too, but he’s our workhorse and we’re going to give him the ball.

What did he do for you guys on that drive in the third quarter when you were up 13-10. It seems like you just put it on his back.

You know, he’s our senior and he’s the guy we’re going to look to. Those linemen, they’re really wanting to run the ball and make the most of it.

Was there a sense in that second half that “We’ve finally broken through”?

We were frustrated the first half. We were that close the whole first half. We drove the ball pretty much every time we got it. I was REALLY frustrated when I threw that pick and the end of the first half. That was a very boneheaded play. But we came out in the second half and won the second half again. That’s what we always base our performance on is winning the second half.

Your hand (packed in ice). Is that just a case of another week, another bump?

Anytime you’re sitting back there letting 11 guys shoot at your head, you’re going to have some nicks and bruises. But I’m all right. I’ll live.

What did Jared have to say to you at the end of the game?

He was just like “Good game. Ya’ll got an excellent team. Go win the West.”

What did you think of him?

He’s a whole lot more mobile than I’d even heard. I’d heard he was mobile, but you can only take it for so much when a guy weighs 285 pounds. He made a lot of big plays for them. I think he’s going to carry on into the pros.
