These are a few of the post game comments we gathered following the Tennessee game ...
Mike Shula (Alabama Head Coach '03)
Coach Mike Shula – What a game huh? Just unbelievable. We’ve had a bunch of firsts for this football team this year, and me personally. Just when you think you’ve seen it all and been through a lot of ups and downs, then all of a sudden there’s a game like this. Give Tennessee a lot of credit for the way they hung in there and made some plays to get it to overtime and then win it. I just feel for our players they deserve better than this. You don’t play a game like that if you’re not mentally tough and physically tough, if you’re not able to focus in some difficult situations. I think our football team grew up a little bit today, if you want to believe that fine, if you don’t fine. I think we’re going to be a better football team because of today. When I looked at those guys after the game and talked to them and looked into their eyes … it’s difficult, but it makes me feel good because we’ve got some guys on that team that are going to be part of our future. They’re going to make this program real good. A lot of people might not agree with me, but that’s how I feel. We had some opportunities to make some plays and finish the game, but we didn’t. We’re not quite there yet, but we’ll make those plays soon enough. We will make them because you do it with good people and that’s what we’ve got.
Shaud Williams (#21 Sr. TB, 5-8 191 lbs. Andrews, TX)
Press Pool ... Mike said he felt like this was a turning point game for this team. Is that the way you feel?
Yeah, I think we showed everybody in the nation what kind of heart this team has. It would have been easy to give up and give in to being tired and emotionally drained. But nobody on this team is that way. We just kept fighting and fighting. It’s been the story of a lot of guys on this team. They’ve had to fight for everything that they’ve gotten. I think we showed tonight that we’ve got a lot of fight in us. No matter what happens we’re going to go down fighting.
Juwan Garth (#42 Fr. WLB, 6-2 208 lbs. Killen, AL - Brooks High)
Press Pool … What do you learn from games like that?
I guess we learned what we have inside. We now know what’s in ourselves, and I think that’s something we truly found out tonight. That will help us in the long run and throughout the rest of the season.
Tyrone Prothro (#4 Fr. SE, 5-8 173 lbs. Heflin, Cleburne County High)
Are you learning more about college football as you go? Was there an adjustment there for you?
It’s a real big adjustment and I haven’t quite learned it all yet. But as the weeks go by, I learn more and more about college football.
Tim Castille (#29 Fr. TB, 5-11 231 lbs. Birmingham, Briarwood Christian)
Press Pool ... Is the by week going to be good for you guys this week? Or will it give you too much time to think about tonight?
Hopefully we will think about it and get better from it. We should just be sick to our stomachs about losing games. It gives us two weeks to prepare for Mississippi State and come out and just try to bash ‘em. We need to think about it every day, think about it at practice and think about it during the off week so we can make something happen and get a “W”.
There's a lot more to read ...
