Mike Shula (Alabama Head Coach '03)
I don’t think I can say enough about Shaud Williams and what he means to our offense and what he means to our football team. He had two good performances in his first two games, but I think this one has exceeded both of those. We’re going to have to look hard to find somebody else to recognize as Player of the Game.
Brodie Croyle (#12 So. QB, 6-3 200 lbs. Rainbow City, AL - Westbrook Christian)
If any player in the nation mean more to their team than Shaud Williams, I’d like to see who he was. In my eyes, he should be up for the Heisman Trophy. He pretty much just carried us the whole second half. We were just giving him the ball and watching him run. Those guys behind him did an excellent job too, but he’s our workhorse and we’re going to give him the ball.
Shaud Williams (#21 Sr. TB, 5-8 191 lbs. Andrews, TX - Texas Tech transfer)
I wouldn’t be able to do it without my teammates. I give those guys credit first because if it wasn’t for those guys out there blocking and the defense out there making stops and getting the ball back, none of it would have been possible. So I’ve got to tip my hat to those guys because they did a great job and they deserve all the credit.

Shaud was incredible. But he always is. I think every game he does something to make things happen. He’s got as much determination as anyone I’ve ever seen play here at Alabama. And that includes a lot of great people. He runs so hard and runs so much bigger than what he is. He’s just a great player and I’ll tell you what, they’re going to have a difficult time replacing him next year.
Do you think Shaud is a legitimate candidate for Heisman?
I think he could be. Why not? He’s putting up some good numbers. He means as much to this football team as probably any player around the country means to theirs. You take him away from this offense … I mean, the other backs are good, but he brings so much in terms of leadership. He’s older than the others and I just think he means a lot. But yeah, I think he’s definitely a candidate. You never know what could happen. It depends on what kind of numbers he puts up down the road.

Talk about playing spoiler again this year in the SEC. You guys did it last year. Talk about getting that first victory this year in the conference.
Well, it was great for us you know. It’s a big confidence builder. We’re now 1-0 in the SEC and hope to get better from there. Kentucky is not a bad team. They’re a good team with a great quarterback and a great offensive scheme. I think with this win, we can go further up in the conference and just get better.
Thurman Ward (#1 Jr. RCB, 6-1 186 lbs. Starkville, MS - Starkville High)
What’s been the key for keeping this football team together considering all it’s been through?
We’re all we’ve got! Basically, we’re all that we’ve
got, know what I’m saying? The different coaches … I don’t
matter what coach comes in. If he comes here, we’re going to accept him
with open arms. But when push comes to shove, the players are all that we’ve
got and the team is all we’ve got. And we’re going to stay close,
ain’t nobody going to divide us.
