Hurricane Ivan struck Alabama on September 16, 2004
causing damage in every county in the state.

Wind gusts up to 50 miles per hour toppled several of Tuscaloosa's giant trees. That left some homeowners to pick up the pieces.

The falling trees took out power lines. Around a million people statewide were without electricity at one point.

Luckily in Tuscaloosa County, there were no fatalities or serious injuries.

Much of the Druid City was covered in debris as Ivan "thinned" the trees.

The Quad at the University of Alabama was flooded. That gave these students the chance for some skimboarding.

Don't people around here ever quit thinking about football? Apparently not!

Some trees fell, but most survived.
Fortunately, that included the Big Tree on the Quad.
