Chinese Dentist Releases "Oak City" ... download an MP3
2002 brought signs of rejunvenation to the Tuscaloosa local music scene.
The old school rock of the Crying Jags ("Flame Retarded") and sci-fi punk/metal of the Atomic Supermen ("Raar!") was released to the masses to a warm reception. Long time favorites Model Citizen debuted the long awaited "Inner Fool" EP. Now, the rock continues to roll with some help from Chinese Dentist, and their first CD titled "Oak City".
The title and album cover feature one of downtown Tuscaloosa's oldest businesses, The Oak City Barbershop. Chinese Dentist (Dave Cheek-bass, Bo Hicks-vocals/percussion, Rusty Kyzer-drumset, Paul Losavio-guitar/vocals, Chris Johnson-sax/vocals) see its big plateglass barbershop window every time they go to their practice room. Bassist Dave Cheek says the band began working on "Oak City" over the Thanksgiving weekend, and are excited to see what this 6-song disc will do.
"We hope to broaden our horizons a little bit, get out and play a little bit more. We want to take another step forward, and this is a good way to spread your music around," said Cheek.
"Oak City" was recorded in the Tuscaloosa-area by Jim Corriher at The Wood Shed. It was released by Tuscaloosa-based Root Canal Records. Cheek says they are looking for someone to help them with distribution. The disc is available here in Tuscaloosa at Vinyl Solution, on the Strip and Oz Music. It's also being carried by Sunburst Records in Huntsville, AL. You can also find out more about it on the band's website ... www.chinesedentistjams.com.
