Tuscaloosa took the nickname of "The Druid City" after the Civil War as it tried to rebuild. The name is tied to an effort to populate the City with an abundance of giant water oaks. Water oaks were revered by the ancient order of the Druid
and a one of the best things about Tuscaloosa.
