But now it's summertime, and the Bog Torch has dimmed for a new bloom of flowers. Thanks to better land management practices by the Alabama Department of Transportation, many roadsides are teeming with native wildflowers. Bee Balm, Black Eyed Susan, Daisy Fleabane, and Queen Anne's Lace flourish at this spot on Highway 43 near Lake Tuscaloosa.
