Druid City Online ... What was your first experience with the Chukker as a patron? … as a musician?

Fuerte the Stranger, vocals, the Last Gunslinger ... As a patron my first experience with the Chukker was definitely nothing all that special. Late night drinks on a Saturday I do believe. The place was always so far out of my way, I never ventured there much. When I did … there would always be an awful head ache waiting in the wings. Performing there for the first time however was a blast. Opening up for Memphis band Turbo 350. The crowd wasn’t that great but we all knew that now we were playing at the Chukker ... things could only get better.

Who is the first band you saw at the Chukker and what do you remember about that night?

The first band I saw was Hank III and Assjack. All I can remember about that night is being blown away by some great raucous music. I also remember how when the metal started pouring out by the end of the show, I couldn’t handle it. That’s right. Even I could not handle it. So with buzzing and ringing ears I dragged my poor body back to the car and left.

Who is the best and worst band you’ve seen at the Chukker and what do you remember?

Best band: Model Citizen with their Who performance last Halloween
Worst band: Spread Eagle with their insanity last Halloween

I don’t really care to remember much about that night.

Name as some of the best local bands you saw at the Chukker. Include any information you can remember about those bands.

Model Citizen is great and always puts on a fun show. They’ve managed to keep the music scene alive here somewhat when all else thought it dead. DC Moon and His Atomic Supermen will always be my favorite local band. They have it figured out and worked down to an exact science…its something you cant mess with. And of course, ourselves, The Last Gunslinger. It just doesn’t get any better than us. Case closed.

Where will you go to see music once the Chukker is closed?

600 Studios. Its close and they really seem to know what they are doing there. I’d love to see more shows there, but it will come in time I’m sure.

What’s the strangest sight or experience you can recall from the Chukker?

Going in drag to our last performance and being afraid of a burly red haired gentleman who was smoking a cigar ... he seemed too ... friendly.

How would you describe the Chukker under its current ownership?

Eh. Fine I suppose. I'm not steeped enough in Chukker information to make a decent comment.

When you hear the name Ludovic Goubet, what comes to mind?

Visionary. Natural beauty. Art in its purest form. Photography is the one way to capture life at its most pure and true state.

What will Tuscaloosa lose when the Chukker closes on Halloween?

An eye sore.

If you think the Chukker is an eyesore, why do you want to play there on its final night in existence?

The eyesore was just a joke ... we love the chukker deeply and its to the point that we have to be humorus about it because it nearly brings a tear to my eye and hurts my heart to know that it will be gone. I have to pretend "good riddance" is the way I feel. If not, I may just break down and I don't wanna get down and sad about the old girl dying the way she is. It's a damned shame and I don't wanna start bitching about how sad it makes me again.

What do you plan on doing on the Chukker’s final night?

Rocking some people’s behinds off and then making them hunt for them. Letting the Chukker and all its patrons know that the music scene is not dead.

The Chukker closed forever Halloween weekend 2003. Music for the Last Stand of the Chukker was provided by the Woggles, Club Wig, Model Citizen, Sweat Bee, DC Moon and his Atomic Supermen, and The Last Gunslinger. Click here to read more about the history of the Chukker.
