Druid City Online ... What was your first experience with the Chukker as a patron? as a musician?
Che Arthur, guitar and vocals ... Universal Life and Accident (currently touring solo) ... I think they were the same show, Wonka Fest 1990 when I played there in Bentley Tock.
Who is the first band you saw at the Chukker and what do you remember about that night?
Man. So long ago, I don't remember. What I do remember is that I had had my wisdom teeth out a few days before and my face was all swollen and I was on tons of painkillers.
Who is the best and worst band you?ve seen at the Chukker and what do you remember?
I saw SO many bands there since I was the booking and sound person there for almost 4 years... among my favorites were Six Finger Satellite, Today is the Day, Bert, Verbena, Superconductor, tons more.... worst bands, I don't know, guess I've blocked them out.
Name as some of the best local bands you saw at the Chukker. Include any information you can remember about those bands.
Biased because i was in them: Clubber Lang, Universal Life and Accident, the Frydaddys. Non-biased since I wasn't in them: the Cunning Runts, Sweat Bee, the Autumn Lords.
Where will you go to see music once the Chukker is closed?
I don't live in tuscaloosa any more. I have been living in chicago for almost 8 years now. But it will be sad coming back to visit and not being able to hang out or play at the Chukker ever again.
What's the strangest sight or experience you can recall from the Chukker?
I will only say that it involved nudity.
How would you describe the Chukker under its current ownership?
Don't know ... only been there once during the current ownership.
When you hear the name Ludovic Goubet, what comes to mind?
What will Tuscaloosa lose when the Chukker closes on Halloween?
Don't really have my finger on the pulse of Tuscaloosa now, but what the Chukker represented to me when I lived there was tuscaloosa's only real outlet for truly original music and the only true safe haven for it's patrons. Absolute unfettered individuality.
What do you plan on doing on the Chukker’s final night?
Unfortunately I can't be there, I'll be on tour out on the West Coast. But I will definitely be thinking about the Chukker that night and wishing I could be there to say goodbye.
