These are the post game comments and interviews with Andre Smith after the Western Kentucky game …

Press Pool … What was it like having to watch from the sidelines last week?

Andre Smith … It was grueling for me not to be able to go out there and help my teammates, to push them and motivate them. I did all I could do from the sideline, but I really wanted to go out there and compete with them.

Press Pool … Talk about the balance you guys had in your offense.

Andre Smith … We just really prepared hard this week. I’m not saying we didn’t prepare hard last week, but attention to detail was key for us this week. Throughout the week, we just really focused on things we had to do as far as technique , blocking designs and things of that nature.

You guys were able to rush for nearly 300 yards tonight. Obviously, you had a big part in that.

We just did what we were supposed to do and listened to Coach Pendry and Coach McElwain and Coach Saban. They gave us the answers to the test. All we had to do was go out there and execute.

When you went down against Clemson, how scary was that?

Ahhh … it was scary at first. But as soon as I was able to move my leg I was all right.

You had not missed a game since you’ve been here right?

Yeeeaaaaaah. (laughs) That is true, that is true.

Was that the worst part of it?

Well, as the trainers said, better to miss one than miss the whole season. I pretty much viewed it like that.

Were you rusty at all? It looked like you were flexing a little tonight. Did it take you a little while to get going?

Ummm … no. I practiced the entire week so I was pretty much prepared for the game.

What was the injury … a strained knee?

(smiles big) They don’t like us to talk about it. You can ask Coach Saban about it (smiles again).

Which knee was it?

(laughing) I don’t know.

Question inaudible

It’s a great stepping stone as far as being prepared to play in the SEC next weekend. It’s just going to push us and motivate us. It’s a great win for the team but we’re only going to celebrate it for 24 hours then it’s on to Arkansas.
