Freddie Roach (#8 Fresh. MLB, 6-2 238 lbs. Killen, AL - Brooks High School)
Reporter 1
“About that interception. At the time, it seemed like a turning point
in the game. What were you feeling? I know all the times I saw you over on the
bench your friends were tapping you on the shoulder. What were you feeling?
Roach
“It felt great, you know. Even now, I don’t think I realize what
I’ve done. You know, for the most part we won the game, and that’s
the most important thing.”
Reporter 2
“They were doing more than tapping you on the shoulder after you scored.
They were mobbing you over there by the fence.”
Roach
“(Laughs)Yeah, they was killing me. Especially Cornelius (Wortham) and
Brooks (Daniels), who I call my brothers. They came and got me, so you know,
we were going to celebrate together.
Reporter 2
“Any final remarks about your first game?
Roach
“Yeah. It was a lot of fun, and I had a good time!”
Head Coach Dennis Franchione on one of the biggest
plays in the game ...
"We had number of first year players play today, and a number of them came
in a made big plays for us. David Cavan, big touchdown catch for us …
Mike Ziifle, Shaud Williams, Freddie Roach … no bigger play than Freddie
there at the end. One thing we have put a lot of emphasis on is catches over
touches on defense. Evidentially, he’s been listening. He caught it. A
nice run. He looked like a pretty good fullback there.”
Defensive Coordinator Carl Torbush on Freddie
Roach's interception …
“He anticipated when he saw the ball thrown, and he went downhill, caught
it right on the dead run and put it in the endzone. It was really nice play.
He’s done a good job. You’ve got to compliment Freddie. It was his
first time as a starter in his first college game. Seemed like he played fairly
consistently.”
