Tyler Watts (Sen. QB, 6-3 220 lbs. Pelham, AL - Pelham High School)

“(In the second quarter) We were sitting on the sideline
itching to get back in there. But when we did, we didn’t take advantage
of it. We had two penalties in that drive and they were very costly.”
So instead of sustaining a drive, and making a couple of first downs to give
our defense an opportunity to catch their breath, we stuck them right back out
there on the field. And that’s something we’ll have to address and
improve on, but it’s something we will improve on.”
Reporter 1 – On that long pass in the first quarter that looked like
it was under thrown. Did you try to throw it that way?
“No, and I’m not going to tell you what I was trying to do.
(laughs) But it ended up being a good play.
Reporter 2 – Talk about the defense you’re going to face next
week.
“Haven’t had an opportunity to see them on film yet, but they’re
physical and very fast. You don’t get ranked as the number 1 defense for
nothing. So we’ll have to have a good game plan, and be ready to play.”
Reporter 3 – Do you feel like you have a lot more confidence in the
pocket. It looked like you were able to stay in there and find some open receivers.
“I tell you what, when you have an offensive line that did as good a job
as ours did today, you feel more comfortable sitting back there waiting for
something to come open. They did a great job today, and anytime you get that
much time, someone’s going to come open eventually. They gave us the opportunity
to make some plays.
Reporter 4 – The offense rolled up a lot of yards, about 430, didn’t
have any turnovers … essentially if the penalties didn’t stop you,
Middle Tennessee couldn’t. What do you think of that for a first game?
“We knew it on the sidelines. There were so many times we were saying
to ourselves, “This is ridiculous. We’re stopping ourselves. But
recognizing the problem is the number one thing. Now we have to correct it,
and I know that we will. The people on offense have a tremendous amount of pride,
and we want to be successful all the time. So we’re going to go in there
and work to improve on these mistakes.”
