Coach Torbush defense hangs tough for another win
These comments came during post game media interviews ...
Torbush - This team is as close-knit as I've been around. I've seen some teams get down or feel sorry for themselves, but there's nothing like that with this football team.
Is this the best game you've seen Hirschel play since you've been a coach here?
No. I thought the first game of the season he played really well against Middle Tennessee. Hirschel had that one tough ballgame against Oklahoma. It was just three plays. In my opinion, he got pushed down the first time. The second time he basically got beat, and the third time he missed a tackle. So after that we gave some other guys a chance. But I really admire Hirschel. I don't have any doubt that he'll get a shot at pro football. I think he's that type of athlete.
He said he got a little razzing last week after dropping that interception.
He deserved a little razzing last week because me and you could have caught that ball that he dropped. But I think he made up for it today, and you could see the same players that harassed him last week were congratulating and hugging him this week.
He seemed quite relieved to have caught it today.
Well I think he was. And Charlie Jones got another interception. We're more opportunistic at making plays this year. This most disappointing thing this game was to see us knock about four or five balls loose and not get on any of them.
Is this next week your week to get a penalty?
No. Next week is my week to stay out of the way so I don't get knocked down. I had that happen twice and that has never happened before. Either I'm getting slower or people are pushing me and trying to get me hurt back there (smiles). But we'll be excited about next week. It's like I told them, we don't want to be playing the game Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. We want to play the game on Saturday. What we plan to do the next five days is get ready to play that game. We know how important it is to what we hope to accomplish as a football team.
Baton Rouge is a very hostile environment.
Yes, I think about as hostile as you can get. Especially at night time. They don't treat you very nice down there.
Any special tips you give your players for dealing with that?
Yeah. Keep you mouth shut. Use their noise to your advantage, and get excited about playing in that type of environment because they do understand and appreciate good football. Even though they are tough fans on the opponent, I think they are very respectful fans in the fact that they understand good football.
