Quarterback Brodie Croyle threw for three touchdowns against the second string defense

Brodie Croyle (#14 So. QB, 6-2 198 lbs. Rainbow City, AL - Westbrook Christian)

These comments came during post game interviews with Alabama Crimson Tide players and coaches ...

Press pool - What's your comfort level at this point as far as what you've got in so far with the offense?

I feel pretty comfortable with it. There's still some things that I'm kind of shaky about. I made some poor footwork on some handoffs today. Just things like that. But as far as the checks go, and when to throw hot and all that, I'm really starting to feel more and more comfortable.

Compare this to the last A Day game. Are you guys ahead or behind where you were at this point last year?

Last year at this point, we had already been in that offense for a whole year. But you know, I think we had a real good day. Compared to Coach Fran's first A Day game ... there's no comparison.

Brodie, you guys had a lot of 1s on the Crimson team compared to the White team. Just talk about what the optimism about how many points you scored once you face the SEC.

You can do whatever you want as far as that goes (comparing Crimson and White teams). But there's still some good players over there. There's lots of good players. Take a Juwan Garth. He's battling for a starting position. You know, there isn't anyone over there that can't play at the D1 level, they're just young. that might have something to do with it. We did feel a lot more comfortable today against 1s or 2s. It didn't matter who it was.

Can you talk about how this offense stretches the field. It makes the defense spread out to take the deep route away, and then the flat route is open.

We do run some lanes, and there's usually somebody open. If there's not, anytime you can dump the ball to a Shaud Williams, well you've got to like your chances there.

You guys seem to have the ingredients for a good running game. How similar is it to what a lot of college teams are doing now?

Well, the draw play is going to be a big play for us again this year. KD and Ray both ran real hard today. So we've got three backs that can go with anyone in the SEC. We've got that work on, and we've got four receivers ... they can go! We need to get some depth behind them. But those guys are learning and they'll be ready by the season.

Do you get the sense that the offensive line gets excited about pass blocking? Some of these guys obviously want to go to the next level, and to do that, they'll have to be able to block for a passing offense.

They do. There's a lot of them that have aspirations of going to the next level and definitely have the talent to get there. This is really helping their stock, but they don't care if they're run blocking or pass blocking. It doesn't matter to them. Whatever it takes to win.

Is the mental game the most important thing now ... watching film and trying to get a better grasp of the offense.

It is a mental game now. We've got to get up there and watch film. Figure out what to throw to what coverage, and just little things like that. But it's also about getting out there and getting pass skills done and getting our timing down. That's really what it is right now.
